Blog communication for peace

Read this. The blogosphere keeps communicating during what's going on in Israel and Lebanon. I think this is very important for the long run. It's a NETWORK! This is where social capital can develop.

World Passport for World Citizens

The World Government is issueing World Passports for World Citizens. As far as I know, it is the only World Citizen/World Government organization that does so.

The World Passport is therefore a meaningful symbol and sometimes powerful tool for the implementation of the fundamental human right of freedom of travel.

That's cool! Let's get one!

Unfortunately, the thing costs $45 for 3 years, up to $100 for 8 years. And paying is quite complicated for non-US-residents and students like me that have no experience in transferring money. Well, that's not the World Government's fault, since it's nation-states that provide obstacles for free transnational transactions.

At first I thought: Hey, if World Citizenship is for everyone, then why do you charge $45, which excludes the world's poor? I then saw that the World Service Authority (that's the World Government's official name) issues "free WSA documents to needy refugees and stateless persons". I was somewhat reconciled.

But still, at least it should be free to register as a World Citizen! With the WSA, it costs $30. In my opinion, a simple registration (without any ID card or stuff), which means that you sign your name on a list of World Citizens, should be free. This could lead to more people registering, which would in turn lead to more weight and legitimation of measures such as the World Citizen Referendum.

Something else: Why is the World Government not democratically elected? It seems to me as if Garry Davis is the perpetual "World Coordinator"...

That's all for now.

the concept of "nation" is anachronistic!

The idea of "nation" is one of the greatest obstacles for progress and the solving of global problems today. although there are other ideas in history that have done a lot of harm, e.g. communism, or racism, nowadays we face a more and more globalized world in which the national thinking is as widespread as ever, nearly everyone in the world consciously or inconsciously thinking in national terms. This is counterproductive.

How can global problems such as poverty or pollution of the environment be solved, if every nation-state fights for their own interests? One effect is that all nation-states tend to lower their taxes for the wealthy and the industry and destroy their own welfare systems, because they are competing with other nation-states for highly mobile big business. Unfair subventions in industrialized states, prevention of mobility and migration for the poor.

The way the world is ruled today is not democratic. We need democratic world institutions.

global democratic chaos

There are thousands of NGOs working towards world democracy. The current chaos in the movement is highly ineffective: if each organization has around 10 active members (i have the impression that this is a fairly good estimate), engagement and contribution seems hopeless for each activist.

One organization with all the activists would be able to work more effectively, with powerful PR etc.

What we need is coordination of all the activities, and first of all we need an overview of the whole scene, locate the relevant NGOs and activists and then start communication.

I'm starting an overview on this wiki.

anti nazi demo

Recruited my girlfriend Luisa and some Quaker and University fellows for the anti-nazi demonstration in Mannheim tomorrow. Initially, some right-wing activists planned a demonstration of support for Holocaust-denier Ernst Zündel. Denial of the Holocaust is a crime in Germany. The nazi demonstration was forbidden by courts, but the democratic manifestation is still going to take place.

E-man and the Masters of the University: Young Secular Israelis - Vote!

This must be about what I would think if I were to vote in Israel:
E-man and the Masters of the University: Young Secular Israelis - Vote!

Instead, my fate is to vote on the Baden-Württemberg elections, which, to tell the truth, are not very exciting. I'm probably going to vote for the Green Party, which out of those likely to enter the parliament, still are the closest to my political views. Although the wahl-o-mat tells me otherwise...
